As you drag yourself
from under the duvet,
Not knowing if it’s Monday
or Tuesday
And you pass the hall mirror
And do a second take
And you’re thinking to yourself,
Am I asleep or half awake?
Then your mobile rings.
It startles you.
You can’t be bothered to answer
But your mood starts to lift,
When the doorbell rings,
It’s your tax rebate
Oh ya dancer.
Then you turn on the telly.
The Corona update,
Nicola’s giving you welly
Fir stepping out yer gate.
Time for coffee and a wee
cheese toastie,
Then the doorbell rings
Naw it canny be the Postie.
Do you need any shopping?
The wee lady inquires,
We’re just checking everyone
Well she answered my prayers.
So I think to myself,
Come on get a grip
People want to help,
Don’t go for another kip.
So I pull on my jeans
And run a brush through my hair,
Take the dog for a walk
And read a book in my
favourite chair.
Watch a movie,
Something funny.
Say a prayer for all those
fighting this unseen enemy.
And I come to realise
There are people worse off than me.
So I call some friends and make amends
And the blues start to fade away.
Tomorrow is just around the corner
And nothing stays the same
So lift yourself
And tell yourself
You’re getting on the HOPE train.
